Over 70 school administrators, private partners and community members assembled at Parish Episcopal School for the United to Learn Fall Network Meeting. The gathering recognized and celebrated our elementary schools’ STAAR results which indicated that 42% of 3rd grade students within our footprint are reading on grade level, compared to 37% from the previous school year.
Guests were inspired by the Obadiah Knight Elementary showcase which featured Principal Enrique Escobedo and his singularly-focused vision which has completely transformed his elementary school. Knight’s inspirational and stimulating environment led to an 18% increase in 3rd grade reading achievement and 5 Texas Educational Agency distinctions for academic achievement and student progress during the 2016-17 academic school year.
Dallas ISD’s trustees, Dr. Edwin Flores and Mr. Miguel Solis concluded the session with an informational open dialogue that left guests with a better understanding of the school board system and policies that affect DISD students. Their panel discussion facilitated an engaging conversation that emphasized the importance of community support.
